US: Import duty on textile footwear may increase

According to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council on November 5th, US footwear importers must submit comments by the 15th to oppose the US Customs and Border Protection's proposal to change its categorization of textile uppers. According to this proposal, the tax rate for such shoes will increase from 9% to 20%; if imported from mainland China, the footwear will also be subject to the additional 15% tariff imposed by the US Section 301.
