West Africa: Renamed a single currency to ECO

Agence France-Presse reported on December 22 that West African countries recently agreed to change their common currency name to ECO. The ECO will come out in 2020, and the exchange rate will remain linked to the euro. African francs are currently in use by Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo. (Source: Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Mission to the AU)
